Hold Tight Blizzard Of 96 Rar Files

Yesterday was the release date for the re-imagined remixed version of the Replacement's sixth album,. I re-ordered this deluxe 4 CD/ 1 LP box set back when I first heard this was about to be available and I'm anxiously awaiting it's arrival in my mailbox.

Actually, I received an email two days ago from Rhino informing me of a delay in shipping (maybe it's because I'm in Canada?) and as a consolation, they offered a digital download of the complete set so I can at least have a listen before it physically arrives. I'm on a long plane ride this Sunday, so I'll have an opportunity to have a focused listen while flying to Europe. The timing is perfect because I finally got around to reading Bob Mehr's brilliant bio-book about the Replacements, this past summer, so I've had the Replacements on my mind (and on my playlist) for a while. Trouble Boys is the essential book about the Mats with so much detail, not only about their music, but also the story behind the scenes. Sometimes tragic, sometimes disturbing, quite informative, but always interesting. I found the book fascinating and very hard to put down, I highly recommend the book for anyone that has any interest in the band. Includes a LP/disc 1 with a remix of Don't Tell A Soul mixed by the original producer, Matt Wallace (Chris Lord-Alge originally mixed it), disc 2 is of early versions and unreleased tracks from an earlier session and disc 3 & 4 a live album, the Complete Inconcerated Live.

I have the 1989 EP, so this is the complete concert from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in June 2, 1989. The real bonus is the live show which is professionally recorded and originally it was considered for official release, but if you read Bob Mehr's book you'll understand why. When Don't Tell A Soul was released I found it somewhat disappointing. Apparently, others including the band felt the same way, it's glossy sounding mix distracted from otherwise decent material though it did provide the label with a couple radio friendly near-hits. I realize labels are always trying to find the hits and air play is what exposes bands to wider audiences, but it can also turnoff longtime fans of the band, especially if you have to compromise their sound.

Of what I've heard so far from the 'new' versions, this is slightly closer to what I expected at the time and closer to sounding like the Replacements. The story behind the recording of Don't Tell A Soul is much more interesting than the original album mix. (read Trouble Boys for the story!).Speaking of Trouble Boys, there is also a big section about the Sessions. This album was recorded after the dismissal of guitarist, Bob Stinson and recorded as a trio. The band sought out the services of legendary producer, Jim Dickinson to produce the record and it went on to become one of the band's strongest albums, at least their last great record (Let It Be, Tim, PTMM). The sessions were heated, but it produced some great moments and an opportunity for Tommy and Chris to record some solo songs.

The recordings from the sessions are interesting because you can hear the growth of songs from demo, to rough mixes, so they still sound a bit raw without heavy-handed production yet. The sessions also produced a lot of non-album tracks that have eventually appeared later on and the. The gem of these sessions are the only two still unreleased songs recorded by Tommy Stinson, who plays most of the instruments on, If There's Trouble on the Way and I Tried To Make This Your Home.

Quoted from Mehr's book, Though rough and unpolished, Stinson's musicality and sheer exuberance shone through. 'Without question the best things we cut.were Tommy's two solo songs and they're the only things that have never come out', said Dickinson. Stinson disagrees, 'As I listen back, I can't sing; they're not great songs'.I received the Pleased To Meet Me Sessions in a trade many years ago and there might be versions floating around, but I haven't come across any. The sound is good, which means it ranges from rough demo sounding to closer to release quality, since some tracks on disc 2 are from singles. It is what it is, so if you want the polished perfect sounding versions that's what you'll hear on the official release.

I'll be off for a couple of weeks jetting to Europe to enjoy some touristy fun, NHL hockey action (Prague), sightseeing, record store shopping and lazying on the beach (Barcelona). I Don't Know. I'm sure you've heard or read about this already, but Ric Ocasek, frontman for the band, The Cars passed away on September 15th of 'natural causes' while recuperating from surgery. The official cause of his death was hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, in other words heart disease caused by high blood pressure.

Days before Ocasek death we had already lost classic rocker, Eddie Money and indie-eccentric, Daniel Johnston so it was a tough week for music fans. Money's music is still played often on the classic rock stations I listen to at work and I even saw him live during an outdoor concert at Assiniboia Downs 40 years ago (with Max Webster and Burton Cummings). I've only listened to a limited amount of Johnston's work, but the Cars have always been on my radar for reliable go-to music, especially on road trips. I remember buying the first Cars album after listening to a friend's copy.

It was instantly catchy and infectious and being the unsophisticated music fan at the time, it was unlike anything I had heard before. I grew up listening to a lot of AM radio in the mid-seventies, along with Elton John, the Beatles, Stones and later FM radio crap like Boston, Foreigner, Cheap Trick, VH etc. So to hear cool keyboards and that 'new wave' sound it opened my ears to the sounds of Joe Jackson, Elvis Costello, Squeeze and Nick Lowe-related bands. When I think of albums that changed my life (both musically and socially), that first Cars album was an important record that widened my musical tastes and tolerances. As a tribute to Ric Ocasek and the Cars, I'm presenting a FM broadcast of a Cars show from 1978, featuring their debut album. According to the notes about the show, this is probably one of the more widely circulated live recordings of the Cars, but this version is sourced from the master tape so the sound is much improved, in fact the sound is flawless. Also according to the notes, this is a rare show where they perform a cover and Elliot Easton sings lead. The Cars released some great albums (and some not-so great), but if you're like me and want to hear the complete first album and more live, this is not to be missed.Enjoy! Please do NOT sell!Do NOT trade this in lossy format.Convert to lossy for personal use only. The AgoraCleveland, OHJuly 18, 1978FM Broadcast01.

The iconic scuzzy punk rock club on Albert Street inside the Royal Albert Arms Hotel in the historic Exchange area of downtown Winnipeg is back! This club played host to many a crazy show throughout the 80's to well into the 2000's, but with much uncertainty about ownership and many unsuccessful attempts to re-open it finallyI've written before about some the great bands I've seen pass through the Albert. I've recorded and posted a few, but I also saw bands such as Green Day before my taping days and if I was more in the loop at the time I could have seen Twin Cities bands, Soul Asylum and Husker Du in the mid 80's. The closest I came to seeing the Du at the Albert was Grant Hart's post Husker Du band, who played to a handful of dedicated fans there. My most vivid memory of the show is before the band started playing Hart was peering on the TV screens at the bar watching a music video of Bob Mould's band, and probably mumbled something sarcastic. Which was a perfect analogy of the two opposite directions each man's career went after the break up of Husker Du. Hart playing small venues in front of dozens of people versus Mould with videos on MTV touring theatre's and concert halls with Sugar or solo around the world.I came upon this gem on Dime a while back, a live audience recording of Husker Du from early 1984 before the band broke it big (by alt-punk standards of the time) before the release of their classic double album,.

This album was the game changer for the band, though it was not commercially successful, it was the record that took Husker Du from hardcore punk to a more wide range melodic alt-rock punk sound. That album along with the following two records, and, I consider the perfect hat trick of LP's. This show previews many songs from Zen as well as songs from their previous discs and Highlights include some non-album songs, Eight Miles High, Drug Party, Statues and In a Free Land.

I didn't record the show, but whoever did, did a decent job despite probably being tossed around by flying bodies in the jam packed Albert. A recording definitely worth a listen at least for historical purposes. This was a soon to be legendary band getting it's feet wet in Winnipeg, Canada in the middle of winter in 1984.doesn't get much better than that!Enjoy!Wow! An actual review in the newspaper. Despite the lack of posts so far in 2019, I'm hoping to make up for it with more frequent posts for the rest of the calendar year. Similar to last year's challenge, I'm going to attempt to make 13 posts in the next 13 days! To be realistic (who am I kidding!), this will not happen, but I do hope to complete this within the next month, so I will write, day 1, day 2, day 3.for each of the thirteen posts mainly to personally keep track and as incentive I'm going to make it.Every year in early July, I agonize whether or not to attend the annual. Nowadays, even though I love music and watching musicians perform it usually takes a lot of convincing or some interesting acts to get me to make the trek. This year I have some regrets because performed on the last night of the festival and according to people I have talked to it was a fine performance.

She has been in the studio recording, so I think a new album will be coming soon and I haven't seen Kathleen live for several years so I hope to have the opportunity soon with luck in an indoor venue within driving distance. If you're familiar with this blog, you know I'm a huge supporter of Kathleen's music and I can never have enough live recordings of hers.A very good source of Kathleen Edwards live shows was a music blog I followed called, Unfortunately, the blog is no longer online, but Jason who operated the blog had tons of excellent concerts he recorded including 11 Edwards shows for download. This site was one of my favourite live concert blogs, not only because he shared lots of local (Toronto) shows, but because he wrote a very detailed description of his recording experience including the equipment he used, where he recorded from and his interaction with people that attended and performed. To top it off he is Canadian and it's refreshing to read something written by someone so passionate about the music. I don't know the circumstances of why the blog is no longer around, so if anyone knows Jason or familiar with the blog I would love to find out why. Through the magic of the (archive.org), you can read the archived screenshots of webpages.

The download links do not work, but fortunately I downloaded all the KE shows before the site went down, and I don't think they are presently being shared anywhere else. The show I'm sharing is from the site and it's an intimate, unique show that sounds amazing. To best describe the concert here's an excerpt from the taper stolen ripped off from haterhigh.com.

In the first night of a once-weekly residency series of shows at the Drake Hotel (Underground), Kathleen Edwardsdebuted some brand new songs for the loving Toronto crowd, pacedthrough some old favourites and finished off with a welcome cover. Thesound was absolutely phenomenal, allowing the band’s performance toshine brightly through. The intimate Drake Underground encourages astrange, respectful silence amongst the rapt crowd, reserving their loudenthusiasm for between-song applause and the curtain call. Additionally, it's interesting to note that some of the early performances of songs that would eventually appear on her next album, sound quite different than on the studio album.

In particular, Chameleon/Comedian (Chameleon) is missing the 'Punchline' chorus and Change The Sheets (Change) is much more rock and upbeat. In some ways I prefer the rawer early versions to the slicker sounding album versions. These residency shows are an opportunity for the band to work out the new songs live and an extra special treat for fans to hear the transformation of the songs taking shape. The band does sound surprisingly tight and the atmosphere has a relaxed and intimate vibe to it that makes this a very special recording. Thanks so much Jason!

Once again, Yo La Tengo performed on WFMU-FM (out of Jersey City in the good ol' USA) for an afternoon of accepting fundraising pledges in exchange for a song. This annual, Request-a-Thon has had the honour of having Yo La Tengo live-on-air taking your requests for something like 24 straight years, if that's true it's simply amazing! As a music fan outside of the listening zone of New Jersey (though, I'm sure online is a possibility) I await for someone to post the show so I can hear YLT always interesting covers and I'm more than eager to share it here. I've posted the last three years broadcasts along with a couple others from the early 2000's and to make it easier to access the previous posts, I've started to add tag labels (at the bottom of the post).

For example, at the bottom of this post, if you click Yo La Tengo or WFMU, the search will bring up the other posts with the same label, easy eh?In case you're not completely familiar with the format of the all request live-on-air show, here's an excerpt from 's page:Anybody who pledges at least $100 gets to make a song request, and wewill do our best to play it. And if you’ve heard this show before youare well aware that all too frequently our best, to quote Eric Burdon, just ain’t good enough. This is the 24th year in a row that we’ve donethis, and you’d think we’d have it down by now.A word or two about these requests. We will not be consultingcomputers, phones or anything else to help us play these songs, relyingstrictly on our “wits” and a lifetime of listening to records. We donot pretend to know every song ever written, and by the end of theafternoon, you’ll be wondering if we in fact know even one. If you areof a mind to give us a couple of choices, or “any song by ,” you’vegot a better chance of hearing us try to take your request. Whetherthat’s a good thing or not remains to be seen.As the show goes by, the requests tend to pile up fasterthan we can keep track of them, so pledging in advance will increase theodds that we play your song.

We swear on a stack of that the four of us will know nothing of the requests until after the show begins.Special thanks to Yo La Tengo and WFMU-FM for making this recording available. WFMU-FM is a listener supported, independent community radio station. I thought this post would be appropriate because of two things in the news recently. The old Playhouse Theatre (aka: Pantages Playhouse Theatre) where this show was recorded was recently that will continue to operate the theatre.

The theatre was up for sale last year and closed it's doors at the end of 2018 with the hope someone might be interested in keeping it running. The new owners paid just over half a million dollars (CDN) for the heritage property.

The other bit of interesting news involves former Guess Who frontman, in his new hometown of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. Apparently, Cummings wasn't too impressed with his neighbors, a dance fitness studio, that was playing it's music too loud. Cummings and other residents have complained and it has led to against the owner of the business. Cummings' complaint led to city council to re-evaluate business licenses for areas with homes and businesses. This seems fair and I have no doubt that residences should have protection from noise and loud music, I would hate to live close to a bar or outdoor music venue, but the owner has tried to reach out to Burt to discuss a solution, but so far he has declined. Remember it is just an indoor dance studio (that opens it's windows.maybe a suggestion is to close them?) and Burt, well he has a concert theatre venue in downtown Winnipeg named after him because he was a famous rock star in his former life, so you'd think he might be more tolerant. Not.This live recording is a radio broadcast of the Guess Who live at the Playhouse Theatre in 1975.

This was about 6 months before the band split up in October with frontman, Burton Cummings in the band. The band would later form in different incarnations without Cummings, with original bass player, Jim Kale registering and taking control of the band name and to this day, the Guess Who continues to tour and record albums with drummer, Garry Peterson the lone original member. The 1975 band personnel and sound was a far cry from the hit-making 'classic' lineup from the late 60's. Peterson and Cummings were in the band, but Randy Bachman (who had left in 1970) was long gone with a succession of guitar players replacing him and in 1974, Domenic Troiano joined the band.I grabbed this recording from Dime, thanks to Krw co for posting and sharing. I have seen this live recording CD for sale at McNally Robinson and for sale at my local record store as an unofficial bootleg (probably downloaded from the same source), so get it here while you can. The sound quality is excellent and the performance is fine.

If you're even a moderate fan of mid-period Guess Who this is a must hear and for fans that want to hear that Bachman/Cummings sound of the 60's, this still holds it's ground, though there is a lot of filler. Since there was a policy of no photography during the show, this is the best I have.Back in December, when pre-sale tickets for a pair of Neil Young & Crazy Horse shows in early February went on sale I had no idea he was even coming to town. My brother asked if I was a member of the because being a member meant first dibs for tickets. I wasn't, so he joined and snagged tickets in the sixth row for the first show on February 3rd at the Burton Cummings Theatre. I used his password for the second show at the Centennial Concert Hall the following night.

Before I bought the tickets I agonized whether I should 'invest', I hadn't seen Young live before and he was on my imaginary list of bands I should see before I (or they) die, but tickets weren't cheap and the cheapskate that I am hasn't paid that much for concert tickets ever. What pushed my decision towards going was the fact his band Crazy Horse would be performing as well as Neil solo and I figured this might be one of the last opportunities to see the electric Neil. My theory is he can play the solo musician-thing for longer than the full-on band. I opted for the third most expensive price level which meant I was back to row 22 on the floor, but dead centre. This could be good! I must admit I'm not a big fan of opening acts.

I get the reason why they have them, it extends the actual performance time for your evening so you're not there for only an hour and a half to see the actual reason why you're there as opposed to two and a half hours with the opening act and the intermission before the headliner. No offensive to the opener (William Prince was fine), but I'm paying the big bucks to see Neil Young. In this case, a quick run to the bathroom during intermission turned into an overly long lineup and without warning (that I know of), the concert resumed as I was walking down the row to my seat.

Without announcement, the lights go out, pitch black dark as Neil wanders onto the stage and launches into the first song. I scramble for my recording equipment, setup and hit record, trying the best I can to set the volume levels.

Because it's so dark I use my small flashlight to see which shines 'like headlights' according to the people beside me as I struggle to level on the fly. The woman beside me tells me, 'could you please stop that' and I don't look at the levels again, this isn't a good thing! Neil played seven songs for his solo mini set, meandering between guitar, piano and banjo which was mellow and cool, not overwhelmingly exciting, but probably satisfied the older folk festival going fans the most.

Things got cooking more once Crazy Horse joined Young for the electric band set. Rockin' In The Free World was the perfect set opener, I think Neil is at his best when he plays with Crazy Horse. Songs like, The Losing End, Roll Another Number and Winterlong are great underrated songs from his extensive catalog and Cortez The Killer is truly a Neil Young & Crazy Horse classic!

For me, the guitar interplay on that song was worth the price of admission and seeing Neil shred with the great Nils Lofgren was a thrill. The main set closed with Fuckin' Up, which of course led to a two song encore with another classic, Like A Hurricane and ended the evening with Hey Hey, My My (Into The Black), which also closed the show the prior evening. Overall, a solid show, but wish there was a longer set from Neil with Crazy Horse, but I'm glad I was there. The sound on the live recording is really good, not much nearby crowd noise or talking, so the sound is clear thanks also to the supreme acoustics of the concert hall, which is made specifically for concerts. There are though some imperfections on this recording I should mention before you listen:. The recording joins the first song ( Out On The Weekend) a verse or so into the song. I missed the start before I got to my seat.

There was no introduction before the song so you don't miss much. After the first song when I was adjusting the sound levels, the sound is stabilized and the rest of the solo set is fine. Thanks again to the lady beside me for talking in my ear, I didn't take any photos because I was worried she would freak out with the light from my phone if I dared. During the beginning of Rockin' In The Free World the volume shoots up (Warning, you might want to turn it down a bit) for a moment, as I blindly turn the levels down almost too low for the rest of the song.

By Danger Bird, the sound levels are up more evenly and stays that way to the end.I originally was going to post this show to Dime (you have to be a member), but since I took my sweet time preparing the files and writing this, someone beat me to it. There is another recording from this show posted, I haven't listened to it, but it probably didn't have the issues I mentioned above.

Also, on there is a recording of the first night at the Burt. If you are not a member and you are interested, I might re-post the show here with the permission of the taper (please let me know). Since I don't want to post another version on Dime, this recording is exclusive to TDIT and is available for all to enjoy.Enjoy!! Happy New Year, or should I say belated since it's already a month and a half into 2019. Busy times, so sorry for the loss of a month, it's been f#.king freezing here for the past month, but my only excuse is I'm lazy and I've been watching too much hockey! I have much to post so stay tuned. One news item I haven't addressed from last year was the untimely death of Pete Shelley, lead singer of the Buzzcocks, back in December 6th. Though the Buzzcocks only released three full length albums during their original heyday in the late 70's, their impact and influence is undeniable. Their punk energy and instantly catchy punk power pop songs were infectious and fun and a good place to start (for the unconverted) is their brilliant collection of 'singles' on the compilation album. This was my first introduction to the Buzzcocks and I wore out a dubbed cassette copy of the album (that I still play today) because it's that good!

Buy it, download it, stream it, whatever you got and listen to it.now!!On Dime, after Shelley's death, there was a flood of live concert recordings from the Buzzcocks. I managed to download a few and one of the better shows, performance, setlist and sound quality-wise was a show at the Palladium in New York City from 1979.

This was at the height of their powers and it's an excellent showcase to a North American audience. As Johnny Thunders and the Heartbreakers, the band only released one studio album. Was originally released in 1977 and remains today as a true punk rock classic. I have the original vinyl LP I bought at a record store in Vancouver in the mid-80's and I was disappointed with the sound quality and mix of the record as it sounded dull and lifeless. Apparently, I wasn't alone with this option as the record has been re-released several times to improve the sound through re-mixes, lost mixes and alternative versions from the original album.

Revisited, L.A.M.F.: The Lost '77 Mixes (released 1994) and L.A.M.F. Definitive Edition (2012) which featured the original album, the lost mixes, demos and alternative tracks. Thunders went on to record a handful of solo studio albums, but the legacy and true appeal of the Heartbreakers was in their live performances. For a band with only one official studio album, they released several live albums capturing the Heartbreakers, especially in the late 70's at their peak. Johnny Thunders shows in the 80's were at best uneven and sometimes unpredictable. With the right mix of intoxication and preferably shows with Waldo (Walter Lure) on guitar, his live shows could also be brilliant with some classic Thunders stage banter and loose, but inspired playing.

It's been a pretty good last couple of weeks for Rivers Cuomo and Weezer. A on December 15th that was dedicated to his band, Weezer went crazy viral with a pair of fans/neighbors at a dinner party having an intense debate about the band. If you are a Weezer fan or any music fan for that matter you can easily relate.

Who hasn't had arguments or debates with friends or co-workers about bands and questioned whether their music is still relevant with today's music. We often question if a band's recent work doesn't hold up against earlier albums (or music they are best known for) and we often moan and groan when a band plays new songs at a show ('we want to hear the early stuff'). An interesting debate indeed. Anyways, this little skit on SNL put Weezer momentarily back in the spotlight with even Rivers commenting on. The other news about in case you haven't heard (or aren't a hockey fan), is that at the NHL Winter Classic game featuring the Chicago Blackhawks and Boston Bruins. The game is set to be played outdoors at Notre Dame Stadium at the University of Notre Dame on New Year's Day (January 1, 2019).

The band will perform during the intermission between the first and second periods. Hopefully more than a song or two will be aired live on TV, if not maybe a more complete 10-15 minute clip will surface on YouTube.I was thinking of end of year concert lists and I really didn't see enough shows to make any real list, but I listened to a number of really great concerts during 2018. One of my favourites was from May that was recorded by JB and posted by on of a solo acoustic show from Weezer's, Rivers Cuomo. The recording sounds excellent with the crowd singing along for most of the show and they do a great job, you know you've made it when your fans know your lyrics so thoroughly. Obviously, he plays lots of Weezer songs with some interesting covers to round out the show. I love this show, I've listened to this more than any other concert this year. This is a intimate performance with just Cuomo's voice (and the crowd's) and guitar, so there's nothing better than listening to this with headphones eyes closed late at night!

Highly recommended, even if you're not a Weezer super-fan.Enjoy!Since this was posted elsewhere, please respect the original poster's instructions!Taped and mastered by JB.Please don't sell or convert to lossy format.Don't upload to any site that has anything to do with lossy material. The TroubadourWest Hollywood, CAMay 30, 201816/44.1SonicsBattery BoxEdirol R-09HRProTools (for level adjustment, compression, eq, noise reduction and song separation)flac.Disc 1 (54:00)01. You Gave Your Love to Me Softly (with Brian Bell). Photo by Peter EllenbyThere are some concerts when you reflect back and think, 'I'm glad I actually went to see this band'. This was the case over 22 years ago when I saw the band, who were touring in support of their debut album,. I bought their CD on a whim, I think after I heard their song, (I Feel Like) Gerry Cheevers on late night CBC radio and instantly became a fan. At the time I was listening to a lot of like-minded pop-punk bands from Lookout Records and Mint, so their short, sweet melodic songs with their immature adolescent sense of humour was really appealing.

And hey, when you write a song about Bruins goalie, Gerry Cheevers that combines my two favourite things, hockey and rock music, they must be worth checking out. And they definitely were! They are just regular guys, not long hard rocker wannabees or punks with attitude, but down to earth guys you'd have no problem sharing a beer with.

Their live show is driven by front man, KJ Jansen with his Tony Esposito split-crouch stance (with the microphone really low) is the smart-ass of the band and his banter keeps the flow going as most of their songs are really short (their CD is only 27 minutes long). A fun band to see live and I liked them so much I saw them two more times in the 90's, but haven't seen them since.

They celebrated their 25th year with a tour a couple years ago that came to town, but I wasn't able to attend. They are joining the Smugglers for their 30th anniversary show later this month, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. If you make the drive, hopefully not through a blizzard, it will be a worthwhile roadtrip to see two great Canadian bands.I was lucky enough to make a live recording of the Chixdiggit show on my Walkman recorder. I've had the master cassette on my shelf for years and I thought it was about time to transfer it to my hard drive before the tape deteriorates too much.

I have to admit it is one of my favourite early shows I recorded and despite the not perfect sound quality, the show is a very enjoyable listen. It's a good capture from the middle of the floor at the Pyramid with the usual crowd noise, but it really has that 'been there' quality I love. As I write this I'm listening to the other live Chixdiggit tapes from 1998 and 1999, (I can't remember the last time I had a listen) and the sound quality is much better. If there's a request to hear them I'll transfer the tapes and upload them.Enjoy! Please do NOT sell or transfer to lossy format (except for personal use)Please share!Visit us atFollow onPyramid CabaretWinnipeg, MBAugust 26, 1996AUD MasterSony mic Sony WM-GX35 Recording Walkman Maxell XLII 90 Cassette Aiwa tape deck ADS Instant music usb Nero SoundTrax WAV Direct WAV splitter FLAC rar01. Lonely Nights (w/ Live Forever teaser)20. Mila, Caroline And Me. Today marks the 5th anniversary of the passing of frontman, Charlie Chesterman. His music lives on with recent releases of the Scruffy the Cat compilation, and the rarities, unreleased tracks album,. Worth checking out are the many albums Charlie recorded after Scruffy, several solo albums as well as records with Chaz and the Motorbikes. His solo recording output far exceeds the Scruffy the Cat releases, so there is much good music to discover. Just before his passing, the compilation, (a collection of hard to find rarities) was available for download in October of 2013 with proceeds going directly to the Friends of Charlie Chesterman fund.

The year before, was sold to help him and his family while he was battling cancer. Needless to say, this man was well loved by his fans, friends and family. Check out the for all his post Scruffy releases to purchase or listen. What I have is music by Charlie Chesterman not available on any of the compilations or was ever released (as far as I know). It's a disc of demos that I received many years ago from a friend that knew Charlie. (Hint: His band's debut album was produced by Charlie Chesterman!) The songs are demos recorded in a studio, mainly just Charlie and his guitar (with some harmonica), raw demo versions of some songs that appeared later and some I don't think were ever recorded.

Off the top of my head, there's early versions of Where'd You Go (from Dynamite Music Machine), If I Had A Heart (from Studabakersfield), Last Summer Night (from Skunk On The Loose). I don't have much information, nor do I have a date when these were recorded, but I suspect it would have been sometime between the end of Scruffy the Cat and his first solo record, so probably early 1990's. If anyone has information about the recording dates and the tracks, please let us know.

I'm sure these recordings will be of much interest for Chesterman/STC fans and I hope that sharing these demos is cool. I thought now was an appropriate time to finally share these rare demos.Enjoy! Please do NOT sell or convert to lossyPlease share!Demos (90's?)01. Pretty Baby Please Don't Go02. Cry Cry Cry03.

Lost Summer Night10. For a live recording from over (almost exactly, one day late) 22 years ago, this one holds up quite well.

First, the recording is outstanding mainly because it's a professionally mixed board recording that according to the notes may have been intended for a future live release in some form. Secondly, the performance by Evan Dando and band is solid despite the fact Evan was known to be inconsistent around this period, he put together a really tight band that included John Strohm of the Blake Babies and Murph from Dinosaur Jr.

The playing is energetic and overall it's a fun, kinda cool set that even covers Dinosaur Jr's, Freak Scene. Though, many critics and fans weren't big fans of, this album has grown on me through the years. The trio of Lemonheads albums from the 90's ( It's a Shame About Ray, Come On Feel The Lemonheads, Car Button Cloth) are actually great records, that have stood the test of time. Sure, there was some filler, but Dando knew how to write a good, catchy pop-rock song. This is the first of a several 'outtakes' from the series in August that I had originally intended to post.

I had so many ideas of shows I wanted to post, but due to time restrictions and continuity reasons I held back some posts. I hope to get back on track with regular postings, as my work life is back to my boring, 'regular' job. I'm feeling physically and mentally stronger (movie set dressing is definitely hard work!) which is a good thing, but I might revisit the film biz in the new year. Anyways, more to come soon and listen to this Lemonheads show because it's a very fine fine recording.Enjoy! Please do NOT sell or convert to lossy (except for personal use)Please share!Follow onKeep in touch onTrampsNew York, NYOctober 28, 1996Mixed SoundboardJEMS ArchiveJEMS 2017 Transfer: in-house reference cassette Nakamichi CR-7A azimuth-adjusted playback Sound Devices USBPre2 Audacity 2.0 16/44.1 capture to.wav iZotope RX6 TLH FLAC1. This recording of the full set wastransferred from an in-house reference cassette likely used to approvethe mix/sound quality and to select which tracks to use later. Despite the fact, (TMBG) have been releasing albums since 1986 and have been playing live shows earlier than that, they have never played in Winnipeg, Canada. I had the opportunity to see TMBG in September of 1992 in Vancouver and looking back I'm amazed that was over 26 years ago! A lot has changed since that time, the band has released 16 albums, a bunch of compilations and a ton of music for young and older alike.

A lot of anticipation and expectations led up to this present show, as I rank that TMBG Vancouver show (Young Fresh Fellows opened) in my top 10, maybe even top 5 concert experiences (really wish I taped the show!). At the time they were touring their record, which remains one of my favourite TMBG's albums alongside, and I was in awe of the energy and showmanship they displayed throughout the show. It didn't hurt that the concert was held at the legendary Commodore Ballroom, with the springy wooden floor, I was literally bouncing up and down with a very enthusiastic Vancouver crowd. It was also notable it is one of the few concerts I've attended (besides Folk Fests) with my brother and sister because we were in town for a family wedding. The Young Fresh Fellows were also amazing and I even had a chance to talk to the Fellows after their set, so this truly was a very memorable evening. For the current tour through Canada and the United States, the show was billed as, 'An Evening With They Might Be Giants', that featured no opening band (or as John Flansburgh put it, 'we're opening for ourselves') with two full sets with an intermission. With so many songs to choose from, their setlist reached out to all parts of the career including songs from their most recent album,.

They played many of their 'hits', Birdhouse In Your Soul, Racist Friend, The Guitar, Istanbul, Dr. Worm, and Twisting that features the great line, 'She doesn't have to have her Young Fresh Fellows tape back now'. Highlights for me include a pair of songs from their debut album, Number Three and Don't Let's Start, the great Cub cover, New York City and the set closer, End Of The Tour. They opened up the second set with a four song acoustic set, Quiet Storm.

This stripped down trio (then later quartet) of the John Flansburgh on acoustic guitar, John Linnell on contra alto clarinet, Marty Beller on snare and Curt Ramm on trumpet, featured new arrangements of songs. The full band returned for the rest of the set and double encore. One thing that is obvious is the superb musicianship of all the members of the band. They had plenty of opportunity to highlight their talents through featured solo spots and expanded solos during the band introductions beginning the first encore. Yes, I really do love bass and drum solos!

Overall, a very enjoyable show, with no disappointments (maybe more songs from Apollo 18?) and hope it doesn't take this long for a return visit. Attending the concert almost didn't happen for me.

I missed out when the the tickets originally went on sale and put it off long enough to have the concert sell out. The original venue was the West End Cultural Centre which I thought was a bit small for TMBG so I was resigned to price watch on Stubhub and check Kijiji daily for tickets.

By chance, the venue was changed to the larger capacity Garrick and more tickets became available. Then, I've been working on a movie set for a film being shot in town for the past month. The reason for the lack of updates on the blog is because I've been working 12+ hour days, 5-6 days a week and I've been too physically (and mentally) exhausted to write.

Anyways, I thought I might miss the show, because filming was scheduled until Sunday, but I was able to finish my work a day early. Phew!I recorded the show on the floor about halfway back (directly behind is theatre seating). The Garrick is kind of cool because it was originally a movie theatre so the floor still has an angle to it so sight lines are good for height deprived people. The sound turned out good with little chatter and the sound balance and mix was fine. I noticed at the show John F's vocals were a little low in the mix, so the recording reflects that. The venue doesn't have the best acoustics, but the sound is even better in the live recording. Definitely a must-hear for any TMBG fans and a rare treat as we don't get a lot of high quality bands coming to town enough (apologies Mellencamp and McCartney fans).Enjoy!!

DJ, I Thought You Said We Had A DealEncore 230. New York City31. The End Of The Tour. Here is the final live recording from the trio of shows (that I'mposting) from the Young Fresh Fellows during their tour of Spain in thefall of 2009. Much like the past two posts, this show cooks and sizzleswith tasty rock 'n' roll Fellows-style. The live audio recording iscrystal clear and thanks to Matthijs for recording and posting thisamazing soundboard quality show.

Sometimes it's hard to hear the excitement and energy of a live concert through just the sound recording, so I posting the complete video from the show (I found on YouTube) to witness a Young Fresh Fellows concert from a view on the side of the stage (here's another video from the same show, different camera angle for one song ). The video isn't perfect, it's a little shaky and blurry at times, but it's upfront and the sound is decent. I suggest you try to sync the audio live recording with the video, dim the lights, get some friends to stand around you to yell and scream, open a cold beer and crank up the volume! Just like being there, right?not quite.man, I really need to see the Young Fresh Fellows live again! As a added bonus, the taper included in the download file the opening set from the Hall Monitors from Washington, DC. They have this great 60's garage rock sound that is high energy and fun that is a perfect compliment to the Fellows pop-rock-garage sound.

This is well worth the listen and at this point of their career (2009) they were unsigned. They have since released a very fine record, in 2017 that includes some songs from the set at El Sol in 2009. I'm back after a short vacation and ready to get back into more music posts.

Thanks to everyone that read, commented and downloaded the live recordings during the challenge series during the month of August. It was very encouraging to see that people are actually following this blog and thanks for spreading the word and sharing the links to this blog. I had a number of requests to post more shows from the Young Fresh Fellows tour of Spain in 2009, I appreciate your comments and sharing your concert experiences seeing YFF (and Scruffy the Cat) shows in your area.So for an encore for day #12 of the12 Days series, I have a couple more Fellows shows to share. First up is a show at Helldorado in Vitoria, Spain with another professionally sounding board recording that features half the setlist different than the night before. The Fellows again are in top form with their usual endearing witty banter that makes their live shows so entertaining.

The introduction of drastic change, following Miller's example, became the title's hallmark; as writer Brian Michael Bendis described, 'This is the book where the audience is built into expecting something unique.
